Quote:Punk in North Korea?

The public radio program The World on Boston’s WGBH (Charged!) had this very interesting report the other day about Ri Seong-Woong, “North Korea’s most famous punk rock star.” While Ri Seong-Woong, and any form of punk rock in North Korea, does not actually exist, the extent to which the purveyors of this “hoax” went is impressive, as is the music itself.

http://soundcloud.com/theworld/north-kor...endary-and

But could there be some inkling of truth, or potential truth, to the idea of punk in North Korea? Luk Haas, our intrepid explorer of the world’s most hidden corners of punk and rock ‘n’ roll writes, “It is true that in North Korea, in the springtime, on days off young people gather in parks with alcohol and acoustic guitars for picnics. They love singing together, all the North Korean patriotic propaganda hits, and some are quite tuneful, like ‘We Will Meet Again’(about reunification of Korea). But nobody would dare singing anything remotely punk or even rock.”

Still, we have Ri Seong-Woong, as interpreted here by South Korea’s 악어들 (The Alligators)…

My copy of this is a 224k/s mp3 and track 6 - They Saved Hitler's Brain stops abruptly and is only about 20 seconds long. I've had a look for other rips, the usual rip is a 128 which again has a 20 second version of this track. The 128 is available as part of a DOA discography on various torrent sites and I think was uploaded here prior to the discography ban.

Normally I would say this is definitely a fault with the rip but due to the nature of this release I wonder if only a fragment of the recording survives and was included on the album anyway. Has anyone got an official copy that can tell me the approx running time of this track?

So we finally got our tunes up on the interwebs, and are offering our humble little debut "The Centuries" completely free of charge! And because I love you all so very much, I thought I'd give you the heads up!

I'd love to hear feedback! And not only on the tunes, but the mix as well as I recorded, mixed, and (poorly) mastered the tracks! But take it a little easy on me, still learning the ropes of Cubase.

Without further ado:

3/4 of Die Kreuzen reunion

"Mark your calendars and book your flights! A little band known as "die kreuzen" will be playing Turner Hall Saturday May 26th 2012 as part of the "Lest We Forget" Festival! Unfortunately original die kreuzen guitarist Brian Egeness cannot make the gig... but never fear, our very own Jay Tiller (Couch Flambeau) will be filling in with Brians blessing! Jay will be playing Brians vintage aluminum Kramer guitar as well! Brian really does want to be there with us but his home and work schedule simply won't allow him to get away for a period of time long enough to have proper rehearsals and then play the gig. Jay Tiller did fill in at a die kreuzen gig once in Minneapolis (on drums) so it could be said that he is thee "5th kreuzen". All that being said, we are VERY stoked about being able to jam together one last time at this very unique and special occasion! From Brian, Erik, Keith, Jay and myself... we hope to see you there! Whats on the set list you ask? Well, you'll have to attend in order to find out, but we promise all die kreuzen records will be represented! This is "it" folks, be there!!!"
