a few years back i went and saw henry do a spoken word at the henry fonda theater. he spoke for 3+ hours and it was amazing. even when he does spoken word he wraps the cord around his hand several times as if he is going to explode into song.

Super nice guy too!

P.S. That thing with the mic cord is from years of people trying to take it from him...not anything I would'nt try but apparently enough have that is a "thing".

I don't know why those spoken word "shows" Rollins are doing last for 2+ hours when he says nothing?

What Rollins brought to Black Flag was more precise vocal rhythms, more intense delivery and an overall increase in physicality of performance- The guy gave it his all every show and no matter what you think of him, you remember him after hearing him on a Flag record. He physically expressed the violent, frantic anger of Black Flag as a whole through his performances.

Not to mention, he gave us Flag fans a comprehensive informational tool in the form of Get In the Van. Just love Henry, he's the best singer they had and he improved greatly over time. Listen to the last show and tell me if you think Dez or any of the others could deliver like that for every song.

I think the later stuff would have sounded better if Ginn was a more accomplished guitarist, which I don't think he was at that point (IMHO). A second guitarist would have helped on later releases too, but I think Ginn's ego got in the way of that.

Not accomplished? You really think so? If you think the guy was winging it on solos and such, listen to some 83-86 BF live. He was hitting those almost note for note from the records, with the exception of improv jams the band would get into. Ginn was playing jazz in the context of hardcore punk rock, and the only other guitarist who has come close to that idea is Duane Dennison from The Jesus Lizard. Listen to the 2nd Gone LP for a conformation of Ginn's skills.

A second guitarist would have only gotten in the way on the later period stuff, and quite possibly not have been able to play the odd time signature riffs. If you play guitar, TRY to play something off of In My Head, and you'll see for yourself how accomplished the man was/is.
